Lions Annual Boxing Day Duck Race supported by Hundreds of Spectators. |
 |
Our thanks to all the people from Kenilworth and beyond who have supported the Kenilworth Lions Annual Boxing Day Duck Race and made it once again a great success in 2011.
Well over a thousand people attended the event which was run on the Finham Brook in the Abbey Fields.
The race started promptly at noon at the ford where the Mayor, Councillor Dave Shilton lead the count down for his wife Shirley to release the ducks.
After much ducking and weaving for twenty five minutes the ducks arrived at the swimming pool complex finish line to the cheers of the large awaiting crowd of supporters.
The good weather helped to make the event a great festive occasion for spectators and organisers alike, raising over £5000 in support of Lions chosen charities and paying prize money of £1250, many winners collecting their prizes on the day.

--o--
On Boxing Day 2010 despite the brook being frozen over in the morning, after a magnificent effort to break up the 2” thick ice the Duck Race over a shortened course was started at noon.
The atmosphere was quite special in a frozen landscape and the Lions would like to thank the many people who still came out in freezing conditions to support us.
No plastic ducks are hurt in the running of this event although some lions suffered from hypothermia!!
Many thanks to our sponsors for this event;
